Visualize It. Every Day.

ree

I'm going to be as transparent as I can be right now. It's taken me MONTHS to have the courage to post this. Why? Absolutely no idea. This was one of my proudest moments multiple months back. Promoted to Captain by the Task Force Commander himself while on an Overseas Deployment.

However, this post isn't about gloating or bragging. It's about being brave enough to Visualize your goals, no matter how big or out of reach they may seem, to work up the courage and commit to achieving them.

To give you a little bit of background; and I'm sure I'll get some good teasing for this one from my buddies, but I've realized it's worth sharing... When I first joined the military, I always wanted to reach the rank of Captain. I wanted it SO MUCH that as a brand new Second Lieutenant, I made sure to get my hands on a Captain Rank Slip and dedicate a portion of my morning routine to VISUALIZING myself wearing it. As some of you may already know, visualization has played a HUGE factor in my adult life. Be it standing in front of my vision board and imagining myself achieving every single thing on it, or carrying around a Green Captain Rank Slip throughout my military training and career.

And my friend, I'd like to encourage you to do the same.

I'm going to be real with you. Although it feels like magic when it finally happens, it's not. It's science. When you're visualizing these goals and going through the mental motions, being as specific as possible, you're quite literally conditioning your mind to be more COMFORTABLE with this process and these exact actions and possibilities. You are COMMUNICATING with your mind and REWIRING your brain to alter its focus towards any and all things that bring you closer to these goals.

Seriously, try it!

Right now, close your eyes and think about the colour red. Now, open your eyes and look around you. How many red objects are you suddenly more sensitive to seeing? Okay, close your eyes and quickly ask yourself... how many BLUE objects were there?

You'll have a tougher time thinking of them because you were so focused on the red!

Your goals in life act the very same way.

So, here's what I want you to do....

Give yourself permission to DREAM. Right now, take out a pen and paper and write down 3-5 things you'd like to achieve in your life.

Now, choose ONE of those things, close your eyes and VISUALIZE yourself having it. I don't just want you to focus on the goal itself either... but rather, the PERSON that achieved it. What are you like? How do you behave? What do you look like? How do you carry yourself? How do you feel?

Good. Now, every morning this week I want to challenge you to do this exact thing. Dedicate only ONE MINUTE of your day (you can time it if you like) to visualizing this goal of yours. As you become more comfortable and familiar with it, you'll start to take ACTION. You and I both know ACTION is what GETS the Goal. But first, you need to BELIEVE that it's possible.

I believe in you.
